Mint Choice
It is too late for any
beginners to collect prize LP. Famous LPs at decent prices have
all dried up and you have to pay unreasonable price for quality
LPs.
We found it bizarre that
even beginners are looking for LPs on this or that list. Now
paying a hundred USD for a LP almost becomes a norm. In the
public forums beach-goers and dealers exchanging sensational
sky-high price bids with pasted bidding information to attract
attention. Or you have a lost bidder licking his wounds and
crying, while LP sellers and the onlookers write him messages to
place a higher bid next time. Absurd, we call this!
We would not bother to
foretell if this is a Vinyl Bubble. On a close watch it is not
difficult to find that only a handful of people is regularly
bidding very high price LPs from a handful of sellers. There is a
rising trend of complaints on the 'mint' or 'near mint' quality
LPs sold to other common bidders. It is no longer a secret that
many LP dealers in PRC are trying to cash their high price items
by dumping them to Hong Kong.
There are many good
quality LPs available in the market. In the past we remain silent
as we do not want to add fuel to fire on rising LP price.
After some rounds of talk
with hobbyists, LP dealers and users, we come up with our choice
of LPs which comply with the following criteria:
1. There is an abundant
supply in the market and the price of the LP will not shoot up
even if more people buy them;
2. The price of the LP
should be around USD5.0 or less, perhaps you have to pay 1 or 2
dollars more for a good copy;
3. There must at least be
one goodie in the LP in terms of sound and performance.
Note: We have
stockpiled a very large number of the LPs we recommend now or in
future. We reserve our right to sell our stock in hand anytime to
make a profit when we find the price is too high to be true. We
shall remove any item from our choice if things went out of
control!

Elisa Chan is a singer. She has the voice
and the rhythm to deliver a demanding song. With Elisa
on board Joseph Koo the composer has more notes to write
a good jingo. He made two classics - Star Dust Starry
Night and Tonite.
'Best Production' award to this album, it sounds
great!

This album hurls Roman Tang to
stardom. Overnight he became a
household name, and more importantly, his style gained
the acceptance of the Hong Kong people.
The title song hit the number one song
in the Hong Kong pop song chart the week it was released
to the public.
Here I would like to pay tribute to
Joe, my mentor of LP hunting. He reminded me of the
importance of this album:
"No one should miss Roman's
performance of the Never Ending Love [side 1 track3]! "

This is a sound track album. The movie,
"Taking the Wrong Bus", was produced in the
Republic of China. It worked miracle with Hong Kong movie
goers.
The title song, Any Empty Wine Bottle for sale? also
became a hit, and rightly so. Julie Sue was then a
nobody, but eveybody was impressed.
All titles good and listenable, this is rare for
Cantonese and Mandarin pop records.
If you do not like Please Follow Me, [side 2 track 2], please leave this
forum, our choice is not for you.

It is not important that you like or do not like
Barbra Streisand. Buy one and enjoy the songs. All hit
titles - Songbird, You Don't Bring Me Flowers, All in
Love is Fair, Superman.
Best Version of The Way We Were is here. I
have bought USA and Japan versions, all sound inferior.

Rumours was the Album of the Year in
1977 Grammy Award. Other entrants included Eagles'
Hotel California. Actually, this is the
best album of Fleetwood Mac. The music is good and
most important it's really an audiophile album.
There are many good songs like Dreams,Go your own
way, Songbird, Chain, You make loving fun, and
Oh Daddy.
From the audiophile point of view, Dreams and
Oh Daddy are very outstanding, especially Oh
Daddy. It is not a fast song but the drum and guitar
are so dynamic and full of energy.
If your system cannot present the dynamics of this
song, you really need to tune your system again.

This album fits the criteria of our choice. It is
still very cheap, for less than USD2.0 you may find a
mint copy. And it contains a very important document.
The title song, Lovers by the Mystic River, is
widely regarded as the best lyric written by James Wong.
His partner, Joseph Koo also made a good effort in coming
up with a romantic melody.
The title song has got an excellent production.
